<p>Eating healthy &#8211; Why is that people are always asking the same question? I.e. why do I need to have a healthy diet? Well why not, that is if you want to lead a healthy life like keeping fit and in shape. If you are one of those people who choose to ignore to eat healthy, then think of your family &#8211; who may just want to.</p>
<p>Eating healthy has an added bonus &#8211; as well as keeping your body up to scratch so as to speak, it is the happy factor that sets in &#8211; knowing you are servicing your body in the best possible way.</p>
<p>Eating a healthy diet is one way of helping the human body in shedding the pounds. A healthy diet combined with some physical activity is a sure way in helping any person carrying excess weight &#8211; to lose it faster. If your eating habits are not controlled then you can run into big trouble in the form of obesity etc.</p>
<p>Being overweight or obese can be very dangerous because it can increase the risk of heart disease, type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, or even a stroke (paralysis) these are just a few to mention, respiratory organs can be affected leaving a person struggling for air i.e. breathing problems. Arthritis, gallbladder disease, sleep apnea, osteoarthritis, and some cancers of which no one is exempt from contracting if overweight &#8211; so this is one good reason to follow a healthy eating diet.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>My aunt told me that I have to bear in mind that we can&#39;t always have a wonderful and &#39;healthy&#39; food in our house.  That is like, I should eat whatever is set on the table.  She emphasizes that we can&#39;t always have wonderful healthy recipes- low fat, low calories, etc. healthy living since most of our foods rely on frying, etc.  </p>
<p>Can anyone suggest cheap but easy yet healthy main meals, recipes so I can prove to her that having healthy lifestyle don&#39;t hinder lack of money.  Even just eating fresh fruits and veggies are a cheap way and one of the steps to a healthy lifestyle isn&#39;t?<br />
That&#39;s why I volunteered to be the cook for a while instead of my grandma&#8230; healthy cooking-simple meals, soups, anything with veggies&#8230; any suggestion so far?  Good and easy recipe cooking website?<br />
Well, I suppose olive oil is expensive to consider&#8230; my grandma used to buy that ordinary cooking oil ( I don&#39;t know what&#39;s that made out of).  Often, we cook our meals and we don&#39;t rely on ready food fads out there.  However, I think it&#39;s a matter of experimenting something new,healthy, and simple cooking without much cost isn&#39;t?  I often debate this one to my aunt.<br />
I agree with SubJ that low income is conducive with a much healthier lifestyle since most people buy on markets and markets are everywhere (even on the streets) like in 3rd world countries and most of the fresh stuffs just came from farms or even in nearby provinces.  Just notice why most Asians are slim&#8230; though I am not generalizing- compared to first world countries.<br />
Well, I suppose to be really strict and stick to a really healthy lifestyle adds additional cost and time.  I agree that most of the fatty ones makes one full and sometimes it tastes good and more palatable.  However, what I am trying to point out here is that fresh is best isn&#39;t?  That to lead a healthier lifestyle is eating sensibly- knowing what is good to eat or not.<br />
<br />You raise a very good point. While it&#39;s true that processed foods are cheaper than unprocessed ones, the way in which something is prepared can make a huge difference in its nutritional value.<br />
Not all cuts of meat have to be fried and none needs breading. Using olive oil instead of butter and leaner cuts of meat (even hamburger) goes a long way toward making the most of your ingredients. A steamer for vegetables costs next to nothing. Plus, junk food like potato chips, ice cream etc., have no good reason to be on a regular grocery list - that is a HUGE potential in saving money.<br />
The bottom line - you CAN have wonderful food, good health doesn&#39;t cost money!</p>

<p>3. You think you&#039;re eating too much when you&#039;re not. Experts say that one of the most common mistakes people make is that they overestimate and underestimate the amount of food their body needs. Make sure that you monitor the portion sizes of your food. </p>

A vitamin or dietary pill is a supplement that is meant to complement a person&#039;s diet; therefore it should not be considered as substitutes for the foods you&#039;re supposed to be eating. Experts say that one all-purpose multivitamin a day is enough to complement the nutrients you don&#039;t get from the foods you don&#039;t eat. </p>
<p>7. Following nutrition and weight loss guidelines by the book. Since people are different, it is only natural for them to have individual needs. Although diet and nutrition plans work for the majority of people, not everything can help you improve you overall diet and nutrition. </p>
<p>One of the major reasons why people get overweight or suffer from minor and major health risks is that they don&#039;t practice having a healthy diet. Healthy diet which include eating balanced amount of food from all food groups along with exercise or regular physical activity can lessen people&#039;s inclination to health problems. </p>
<p>PLANNING ON A HEALTHY DIET </p>
<p>Experts say that though basic principle of healthy diet is simple, most people are having a hard time sticking to it. Major reasons may include a super busy lifestyle, work that causes a lot of stress or even an environment that is not conducive to having a healthy diet. </p>
<p>Although it is hard to start and maintain a healthy diet, nothing is impossible if you really want to achieve a healthy mind and body. For starters, it is advisable to mix up food choices from each food group. Eating a large variety of foods and veggies can also serve as a warm up in avoiding the foods that contribute to drastic weight gain. Having a balanced intake of calcium-rich foods, whole grains, and protein-rich products will also keep you in track. </p>
<p>To be able to maintain eating a healthy diet, you must also know your restrictions of fats, salt and sugars levels, and intakes. Lastly, you must monitor your body weight regularly for you to know if your body is absorbing all the nutrients it needs.  </p>
<p>Here are more tips for eating well and achieving a healthy diet: </p>
<p>1. Meals based on starchy foods are a good start to a healthy diet. Experts agree that people should eat more starchy foods such as bread, cereals, rice, pasta, and potatoes because they are a good source of energy not to mention being the main source of a range of nutrients of a person&#039;s diet like fiber, calcium, iron, and vitamin B. </p>
<p>2. Load up a lot of fruits and veggies. Eating at least 5 portions of a variety of fruit and vegetables a day is an ideal way to maintain a healthy diet. But, it is sometimes hard to achieve because people do not want to waste time peeling or chopping certain fruits and veggies. The best way to keep up with the recommended fruit and veggies intake if to eat a variety of fruits that are either fresh, frozen, canned or dried and picking out veggies that can be finger delights such as celery, broccoli, carrots, beans and peas. </p>
<p>3. Be more &#034;fishy&#034; Despite of the so-called &#034;high mercury content&#034; of fish, nutrition experts say that eating more fish especially oily fish is an important component of a healthy diet because it is a good source of protein, vitamins, and minerals. </p>
<p>4. Try to cut down on saturated fats and sugars. Do not totally cut down on fats because your body needs it to stay healthy. Basically, fats are categorized into saturated and unsaturated fat. The former has high amount of cholesterol and the latter has lower amounts that lowers blood cholesterol. Cut down only on foods that are high in saturated fat such meat pies, sausages, hard cheese, butter and lard, pastry, cakes and biscuits, cream and the like. Also monitor your sugar intake because aside from causing decay, sugary foods can also be high in calories that contribute to weight gain. </p>
<p>5. Eat less salt. Too much salt can raise your blood pressure. </p>
<p>6. Drink lots and lots of water to keep your body well-hydrated.</p></p>

<br />1) The ability to know when to let things go rather than fuming over them and letting them cause unnecessary anger/stress.  The ability to recognize that not everything is within our control and the coping mechanisms to deal with it.</p>
<p>2) The ability to laugh at yourself even in tough times.</p>
<p>3) The ability to admit when you need help and graciously accept it.</p>
<p>4) A connection with a higher being, whether it&#39;s &quot;God&quot; or another religious entity or being.</p>
<p>5)  Getting plenty of rest and knowing when to take better care of yourself.  </p>
<p>6) Knowing that each day you do something to brighten someone else&#39;s day and that you did your best to be a good person.  It can be something as easy as holding a door for someone, letting them pull into traffic, or just a smile.</p>
<p>7) Not abusing your body with excessive drinking, smoking, recreational drugs, etc.</p>

<p>are however, ways to watch what you eat on </p>
<p>vacation.</p>
<p>It&#039;s easier than ever these days to request a low</p>
<p>fat or vegetarian meal on airplane flights.  If </p>
<p>you choose to instead drive to your destination, </p>
<p>the quest to find healthy food can get a bit more</p>
<p>complicated.</p>
<p>Rather than simply relying on greasy foods for</p>
<p>nutrition, pack some nutritious foods in a cooler</p>
<p>full of ice packs.  Fruits and vegetables, crackers,</p>
<p>yogurt, and sandwiches are all great to have with </p>
<p>you on the road.  </p>
<p>Once you arrive at your hotel, you should do </p>
<p>yourself a favor and turn the mini bar key down - as</p>
<p>this helps to avoid the temptation.  If your hotel</p>
<p>offers a continental breakfast, stick to fruits,</p>
<p>cereals, and proteins.  If your hotel has a stove</p>
<p>or microwave, consider bringing your own healthy</p>
<p>food with you.</p>
<p>If you simply must eat out, do so only when you </p>
<p>are hungry.  Restaurants will usually serve large</p>
<p>portions, so be careful.  If you do go a bit over</p>
<p>on a meal, simply cut back on the next.  </p>
<p>If you find it hard to fit in three square meals</p>
<p>a day, try to fit in six smaller meals or snacks,</p>
<p>as your body needs fuel every four hours or so.</p>
<p>When you eat out, avoid appetizers.  Whatever you</p>
<p>do, do not miss any meals.</p>
<p>When it&#039;s possible, you should avoid eating large</p>
<p>meals at night.  When your body gets ready for </p>
<p>sleep and slows down, it also burns calories at a</p>
<p>much slower pace.  Never eat bread before bed, and</p>
<p>make sure to avoid the butter.  Choose fish or</p>
<p>poultry for your meal instead, and include </p>
<p>vegetables as a side dish.  </p>
<p>Even though it may sound hard, eating healthy on</p>
<p>vacation isn&#039;t really that difficult.  All you have</p>
<p>to do is use a little will power, and pass up</p>
<p>foods that you know aren&#039;t good for you.  This</p>
<p>way, you&#039;ll enjoy healthy eating and a healthy</p>
<p>lifestyle wherever you go.</p>
<p>The next time you go on a vacation, always remember</p>
<p>that eating healthy is a way of life.  You can </p>
<p>afford to get something you crave, although you</p>
<p>shouldn&#039;t make a habit of it.  One ice cream </p>
<p>cone or a pizza isn&#039;t going to matter - as long as</p>
<p>you know when to stop.</p></p>
