5 Habits Of Highly Healthy People

Habit 1: Eating right is a very important part of a healthy lifestyle. Now according to many of today's marketing ploys, you could be eating anything and it's considered "healthy". Low-fat, low-carb, no-carb…what's the best. Well, I think if you just use common sense, you'll know what a healthy diet is. If you can, shop at the natural food store, as this is usually the healthiest food. Stick to the food guide pyramid and get some variety.

One of the biggest factors is how often you eat. All of our lives we've been taught to eat three big meals. However, recent studies have shown that this isn't necessarily best for us. If you can, try eating 4-6 smaller meals throughout the day. This keeps your metabolism working constantly and will burn more calories. This approach is pretty obvious when you think about it.

When you only eat big portions a few times per day, your body thinks it will be awhile until it gets food again. Therefore, it stores some of the food away for a rainy day. If you eat more frequently, your body thinks more food will be coming soon. Less fat is stored as a result of this. So in summary, eat your meat, dairy, grains, fruits and vegetables…and eat them frequently.

Habit 2: Another habit that healthy people perform is taking supplements. Vitamins can give you that extra boost that you don't get through your diet. Chances are, even if you're trying to eat healthy, you miss something that you need. A good multivitamin will solve that.

Habit 3: Healthy people generally get a good amount of sleep every night. Your body was designed to rest every night. It will work better for you if you let it. Six to eight hours is optimal. When you go to sleep, clear your mind of everything else. A busy mind will keep you awake and not let you sleep as deeply. Just try to forget the day and rest. You'll feel much better.

Habit 4: Another habit that healthy people have in common is good hygiene. This may seem like a given, but it should not be ignored. Having good oral health contributes to your overall health as well. So listen to the dentist and brush at least twice a day. Don't forget to floss, either.

Habit 5: One habit that nearly all highly healthy people have in common is their attitude. Good mental health is synonymous with good physical health. You can't be depressed all the time and be healthy. Control your attitude and control your health. Try to put some of these habits into your routine. You'll be glad you did.

What should i do to gear myself towards having a healthy Lifestyle.?

I'm 5'8, 170 pounds, not as hairy as those fat people on tv representing pigs. I'm slim, yet chubby, but i want to be like one of those marine. The only thing is I would like step to step guides (a website would help me a lot) to becoming as healthy as a marine. Marine food is not viable.

And another thing, I'm the kind of person that if the first day is tense I'll go back on being chubby. So, try your best to persuade me into having a marine's healthy lifestyle.

This is going to sound harsh but you need it. Being that I come from a heavily military family and have many friends in the military, it irritates me to read that you want to 'become as healthy as a marine' but are so obvious in the fact that you're lazy.

The Marines are healthy because they do the work and bust their asses. They go through hardcore workouts that even healthy average people would have difficulty with. Sometimes they go through physical training several times a day and do it most days of the week. They do in the rain, cold, snow, blazing hot summers. With your attitude it'd take you years. If you need to be persuaded into helping yourself so you can live longer, then you don't deserve it. The Marines that seem you to idolize would not tolerate your instant gratification approach. It's all about blood, sweat and tears and if you aren't willing to reach out and grab what you want then you can stay the chubby guy. Suck it up and do it.

Looking for books or tips about living a healthy lifestyle.?

I am not overweight, but am looking to start living a more healthy lifestyle by changing both my diet and by starting to workout and exercise more. I'm looking for any suggestions about good books that target either or both of these goals. I would love to work on a little muscle building too but most importantly I want to just stay fit and eat right and nutritiously. If anyone can help with this, it is greatly appreciated.
P.S. I am a 19 year old male.

I just found this great magazine, and I think it's a monthly. It's called "Heart Healthy Living" and it's put out by "Better Homes and Gardens" magazine. Filled with great articles and recipes.

Another good book for recipes and such is "The 8 Week Cholesterol Cure Cookbook" by Robert E. Kowalski. Harper & Row Publishers. Even if you don't have cholesterol problems, it's a great book with more than 200 recipes. Tells you what and how to eat to lower the cholesterol. I bought it to cook for my DH who has the problem, it's both hereditary and food related. We both eat the same now, so I figure it ain't hurting me any, either!!!

You sound like a smart young man, more people should feel like us, there would be less obesity and heart disease in this country!

What foods/fruits should i start buying to start a healthy lifestyle?

OK, so what i eat comes mostly from my fridge,
which is mostly fries, nuggets, basically unhealthy food..
I want to lead a healthy lifestyle now, so i want to begin with this fridge of mine(lol)..

So any ideas of what foods/fruits etc etc? and also if its cheap or comes in varieties in one packet?..

Sorry if it seems too long..

Oranges and apples are a good start. Grapes, also can be munched while watching TV, instead of chips. And if you have to have snack foods in the house, get corn chips or pretzels. Pasta is good. You could cook a mushroom spinach lasagna on Sunday and freeze individual serving sizes to take out of the freezer whenever you want lasagna or are too lazy to cook during the week.

Remember that hand held prepared foods, like fries or pizzas, are usually unhealthy.
